The Araknis AN-520-AP-O is a dual-band AX3000 outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access point designed for patios, yards, pool areas, courtyards, guest houses, outdoor entertainment spaces, and exterior work areas.

This is a wireless access point, not a router. It requires an existing router/network plus a compatible PoE power source.

The advertised 3000Mbps figure is an aggregate theoretical PHY rate, not a guaranteed internet or real-world throughput speed. Actual performance depends on client capability, channel width, interference, distance, network equipment, and internet service.

2.5 Gigabit Wired Backhaul

A 2.5GbE switch is not required for basic operation, but a multi-gig connection helps avoid a 1Gbps wired bottleneck when compatible Wi-Fi clients and network equipment are used.

Important PoE Power Requirements

The AN-520-AP-O does not use a separate DC power input. Power is supplied through Ethernet.

• IEEE 802.3at PoE+ supports full Wi-Fi functionality when the internal heater is off
• IEEE 802.3bt PoE++ supports full Wi-Fi functionality with the heater operating
• 802.3bt PoE++ is required to enable the downstream PoE-out function
• PoE-out supplies up to approximately 15W to a compatible connected device

When powered by 802.3at PoE+ during conditions that require the internal heater, Araknis specifies reduced Wi-Fi functionality. For installations that need full cold-weather performance or PoE-out, use a compatible 802.3bt PoE++ source.

Power a Nearby Network Device

When the access point itself receives sufficient 802.3bt PoE++ power, its 1GbE secondary Ethernet port can provide data and approximately 15W PoE output to a nearby compatible device such as an IP camera.

The downstream device must fit within the supported PoE-out power limit.

Fast Roaming for Multi-AP Networks

Fast Roaming uses IEEE 802.11r and 802.11k to help compatible devices transition between Araknis access points broadcasting the same SSID.

Client devices must support the relevant roaming standards, and Araknis does not guarantee seamless roaming compatibility with access points from other manufacturers.

Is the AN-520-AP-O a router?

No. It is a wireless access point. You still need a router to provide routing, DHCP, internet connectivity, and other core network functions.

Is 3000Mbps the actual Wi-Fi speed?

No. AX3000 refers to the combined theoretical PHY rates of up to 574Mbps on 2.4GHz and 2400Mbps on 5GHz. Real-world throughput will be lower and depends on the client, distance, interference, channel width, and wired network.

Does it support 160MHz Wi-Fi channels?

Yes. The 5GHz radio supports channel widths up to 160MHz and a peak PHY rate up to 2400Mbps with compatible clients.

Do I need a 2.5GbE switch?

No. The 2.5GbE port can operate with slower Ethernet infrastructure, but a compatible multi-gig connection helps avoid a wired bottleneck when higher wireless throughput is required.

How is the AN-520-AP-O powered?

It is powered over Ethernet. Araknis specifies IEEE 802.3at PoE+ for normal operation and IEEE 802.3bt PoE++ when full heater operation or PoE-out is required.

Why would I need PoE++ instead of PoE+?

PoE++ is required to use the approximately 15W PoE-out port and to maintain full Wi-Fi functionality while the internal cold-weather heater is operating.

Can it power an outdoor security camera?

Yes, under the correct configuration. When the access point receives sufficient 802.3bt PoE++ power, its secondary Ethernet port can supply approximately 15W PoE to a compatible device. Confirm the camera's maximum PoE requirement before connecting it.

Does it support WPA3?

Yes. It supports WPA3, WPA3-SAE, WPA3-SAE Mixed, and compatible WPA2 security modes.

Does it support Fast Roaming?

Yes. Araknis Fast Roaming uses IEEE 802.11r and 802.11k with compatible client devices and multiple properly configured access points.

Can I manage it remotely?

Yes. It is OvrC enabled for compatible remote network management, monitoring, and configuration. It can also be configured through its local web interface.

How many Wi-Fi networks can it broadcast?

Araknis specifies up to 9 SSIDs per radio, for up to 18 SSIDs total including guest Wi-Fi.

Is the AN-520-AP-O waterproof?

No. It is IP55 weather resistant, not waterproof or submersible. Correct orientation, cable sealing, drainage, and installation are required for outdoor use.

Can it be mounted on a pole?

Yes. Araknis supports pole mounting with the optional AN-ACC-AP-O-POLE accessory, sold separately.

Can I mix it with older Araknis Wi-Fi 5 access points?

Araknis does not recommend using the newer X20 generation interchangeably with older x00/x10 access points for roaming. For a multi-AP system, matching generations is the safer choice.
